Started in 1991 by four local Christians who took soup, blankets and sleeping bags to the seafront to local homeless people. From this small beginning Turning Tides was born. They now work across Sussex in Worthing, Littlehampton, Horsham and East Grinstead and have grown to over 100 staff and 300 volunteers. They provide a range of services, which offer opportunities to regain independence.
Today Turning Tides helps over 1,700 people each year providing a range of services including a Community Hub and Accommodation Projects. Any one night there are up to 58 people in their accommodation services. They work with them on a one to one basis to enable them to live independently once again.
